Dr. Leigha Rock, director of the School of Dental Hygiene in ÈâÈ⴫ý’s Faculty of Dentistry, has been elected as one of five inaugural Emerging Leaders in Health Sciences in Canada.Ìý

The Canadian Academy of Health Sciences (CAHS) announced the five names yesterday, August 26, 2025. According to the CAHS media release, these Emerging Leaders "exemplify the talent and passion that define the future of the field".

Speaking about the announcement, Dr. Rock said, "This recognition is an honour, and a true reflection of the people who I have the privilege of working alongside, including colleagues, mentors, collaborators, and students who continue to shape and support my journey in research, leadership, and education."Ìý

Dr. Rock is an associate professor in the Faculty of Dentistry at ÈâÈ⴫ý. She is also cross appointed to the Department of Pathology in the Faculty of Medicine, is a scientist at the Beatrice Hunter Cancer Research Institute, and holds a scientific appointment at Nova Scotia Health. She is the current president of the Canadian Association for Dental Research and co-chair of the National Oral Health Research Strategy.

The CAHS brings together Canada’s top-ranked health and biomedical scientists and scholars to evaluate the country’s most complex health challenges and recommend strategic, actionable solutions. Over a five-year term, the CAHS Emerging Leaders in Health Sciences will be recognized, mentored, and actively engaged with the CAHS.
