The Schulich School of Law is pleased to announce that Nayha Acharya, Maria Dugas,Ìý²¹²Ô»å Andrew Martin will be joining us as new tenure track colleagues on July 1, 2019.
Nayha Acharya completed her LLB at the University of Alberta, then articled and practiced at the Edmonton law firm Reynolds, Mirth, Richards and Farmer. She has been part of the Schulich School of Law community since 2011, when she arrived to pursue graduate studies, earning an LLM in 2012 and a PhD in 2017. Her current research interests include legal philosophy, procedural theory, alternative dispute resolution, and medical negligence. Nayha has also taught Civil Procedure, Alternative Dispute Resolution, Introduction to Law, and Law and Ethics at our law school.
Maria Dugas earned her JD at the Schulich School of Law in 2015 and articled at Nova Scotia Legal Aid, then completed her LLM here in 2018. She is a recipient of the James Robinson Johnston Graduate Studies Scholarship and was the first African Nova Scotian to clerk at the Nova Scotia Court of Appeal. Her research interests include copyright law, criminal law with a social justice perspective, and critical race legal theory. For the 2018/2019 academic year, Maria is teaching Torts, Legal Research and Writing, and Legal Ethics.
Andrew Martin holds a JD and an SJD from the University of Toronto and an LLM from Georgetown. He articled at the Government of Ontario and practiced as a law clerk and a staff lawyer at the Court of Appeal for Ontario. His primary research and teaching interests are in legal ethics, and his work focuses on law society regulation of the Attorney General, government lawyers, and lawyer-politicians. He is the 2018–2019 OBA Foundation Chief Justice of Ontario Fellow in Legal Ethics and Professionalism Research.
