Theatre (Stage Design and Technical Theatre) blends creative design, technical production, and hands-on learning. You'll gain experience in scenic design, set construction, lighting, sound, stage management, props, multimedia, and performance technology while working on live productions throughout your degree.

Students graduate with practical production experience and a professional portfolio. Alumni work as designers, technicians, production managers, and stage managers, while others pursue graduate studies or professional apprenticeships in theatre and scenography.

From your first year, you’ll get hands-on experience working on Fountain School productions and putting what you learn in class into practice. As you build your skills, you’ll take on more specialized and leadership roles, working alongside actors, directors, designers, playwrights, and guest artists.
You may also have the opportunity to complete an apprenticeship with a local theatre company. By the time you graduate, you’ll have a portfolio of your work across multiple productions and real experience to take into your next step in theatre.
Get paid work experience
Dal Arts students can apply for the FASS Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) Pilot Program, which offers a one-semester paid work term where you put what you learn in the classroom into practice, build career-ready skills, and gain experience in the workplace.

Arts students can take their learning beyond the classroom through the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences’ experiential learning program.

Admission requirements
Minimum admission requirements
To be considered for admission to this program, you must meet minimum academic criteria:
- Completion of secondary school (Grade 12)
- Achievement of the minimum average for your program of choice.
- Completion of Grade 12 English (or equivalent course).
Admission to many ÈâÈ⴫ý programs is competitive. This means that meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee admission.

Bachelor of Arts requirements:
- Minimum overall average: 70%
- Academic English 12
- Four additional academic subjects
Students in the honours stream are expected to maintain the required academic standing as outlined in the Academic Calendar.
